In a single acinus the apical and lateral surfaces of exocrine cells are connected by elaborate junctional complexes (zonulae occludentes, z. adhaerentes, desmosomes), in the adjacent cytoplasm curved bundles of tonofilaments run from one junctional complex to the other and extend also over a long distance into the cytoplasm.
